I love a good thrifted find or a cute upcycled piece of clothing as much as anyone else. It reduces textile waste while at the same time breathing new life into your closet. As someone who usually sizes into the XL category, I can reasonably find a few things that I like, but if you are larger than an XL finding options that are upcycled or thrifted is really difficult. So I decided to do some digging and find you some shops where you can get the upcycled or recycled clothing of your dreams no matter your size.

Surf the #plussizethrift or #plussizevintage hashtags as you can find yourself quite a few awesome shops! But if you don’t quite have the time to do your own searching here are some great online Instagram thrift stores I found:
A shop stocking sizes 12 and up because, in their own words, “Fat folks need to look fly too.”
A queer run shop focusing on plus-size clothing to cater to every one and every body. In their own words, they think that everyone should have access to thrift and “all folks should have access to cool things.”
A shop for thrifted gems and wearable art they stock for all bodies but especially for larger ones.
Stocking so many fun favorites this shop has many offerings particularly some unusual painted denim.
A good shop for some plus size basics this shop stocks sizes 18-28.
Emma Zack founded Berriez after having many frustrating experiences with clothing and also particularly vintage. Berriez has vintage clothes up to a 4X desiring to promote both sustainability and inclusion at the same time.

Upcycling pieces of clothing can yield really beautiful pieces that look and feel fresh while also not creating more clothing waste at the same time. Whether it’s a more upscale piece of art or just an old t-shirt that has some screen-printing done on it, here are some Etsy shops that turn old into brand new.
A queer-owned shop that upcycles old t-shirts with awesome printed slogans.
An eco-friendly shop that produces many different fun and colorful garments with custom options available.
A shop with upcycled Boho clothing made in sizes up to 5X.
Unique wearable art upcycled clothing in a “european” style.
Fun upcycled skirts in colorful prints and designs.

On my search for these thrifters and upcyclers, I came across some options that I would say stand alone. ThredUp for one stocks up to a 5X on their site where you can find cheaper and also high-end clothing brands. Plus-Size Vintage is a closed Facebook group where people can sell their used clothing from size 14 up. FatToo is another closed Facebook group for people who are fat too. They have some stricter guidelines to be a bit more protective but are a great option for buying used clothing size 20 and up.

Last but not least is Poshmark. While Poshmark is a general clothing marketplace, they do also have used options as well typically only up to a 5X. This is one of the easiest places in terms of searching as you can just select your sizes in any given category and see what comes up. But if you need a general place to start here are some shops that stock a fair few larger sizes..
