Julie has years of training and education ranging from Cartoon University, L’Ecole Supérieure des Arts St-Luc, in Bruxelles, to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. She has been awarded multiple grants by the Danish Arts Foundation/Ministry of Culture.

Recently she founded “Rare Star Portraits” where she illustrates her own unique, personalized, custom, hand-drawn style printable art portraits. 

“Years ago I found an alternative to the busy hamster-wheel life-style of my Danish capital hometown of Copenhagen, and I built my own circular-shaped, palm-roofed mountain house on a steep hill in Guatemala - an unique oasis overlooking volcanos and the magical Lake Atitlán. Being part of a little Mayan community in the highlands of Guatemala makes me feel closer to an authentic and spontaneous way of living. Part of the year I am spending in the summertime of Copenhagen so I can still experience the incredible beautiful, long, Nordic summer nights and I get to see family and friends. I love diversity and I see myself as a world citizen. 

When I create a portrait I try to capture the essence of the person by making specially the eyes look alive and vivid. I look at the details in the reference photo and then I create a little story about the person and I try to add this story in the portrait”.
