Macrame Keychain

Craft by by Elina Khindova

Looking for a new therapeutic hobby? Macrame is ideal for you. While improving your visual motor skills, coordination and stamina, the repetitive movements of the craft have a meditative and calming effect on your mind. Learn to make a beautiful and easy macrame keychain with me, turn your keys into a statement accessory, while soothing your mind in the process.

You will need:

-      Yarn

-   Scissors

-   A split ring and a keychain clasp

Step 1

Cut two pieces of yarn, 3 feet each.

Step 2

Attach the pieces of yarn to the split ring with a larks head knot. You can do this by folding the yarn in half, wrapping the folded end of the cord around the ring, and pulling the ends of the yarn through the loop of the folded end. Pull to tighten.

Step 3

Make a spiral knot. You do that by taking the outer left yarn and crossing it over the two middle yarns, then taking the outer right cord and placing it over the end of the left yarn and UNDER the two middle pieces of yarn and loop it through the hole on the left side. See the picture for better understanding.

Step 4

Continue doing the same knots, until a spiral starts to form.

Step 5

When you are happy with the length of your keychain, tie all four pieces into a knot, and use a comb to brush the ends of the yarn. Leave about 2 inches of the tassel, cut it in a straight line.

And here you have it! A personalized keychain that will wow all your friends, I promise they will want one too. Have fun with the process of making this craft, make it thinner or thicker, play with lengths and colours, but most importantly try to relax and focus on the task, to relieve stress and calm your mind.
