Pop-up card by Allison Mitola

Craft curator Allison Mitola

This pop-up card has a whimsical design that would make any recipient smile. With Mother’s Day approaching on May 10th, you may find that you would like to gift this card to a maternal figure in your life; grandparents, siblings, teachers, or other cherished people. This tutorial uses a fun floral design that can be easily made your own to express your creativity, plus it feels great to show someone that you appreciate them with a handmade card.

You will need:

Different colored papers

Scissors

Glue or tape

Step 1. Create your letter base by folding a paper in half. I then cut mine smaller based on the size of the envelope it was going in.

Step 2. Cut a strip of paper about 1 inch wide and 2.5 inches long in the same color as your letter. This piece will be what makes your card pop out! Then, fold down the center. Next, fold tabs on either side, which will be used to glue the pop-up portion into the letter.

Step 3. After getting your pop-up piece secured, begin creating your flowers. I chose to use 3 different colors of scrap paper in 3 different styles, for a total of seven flowers.

Step 4. Secure your flowers behind the pop-up strip of your card. Attach the pieces you would like displayed in the front first, then work to the back. I used glue to attach mine, then secured with tape.

Step 5. Once your pop-up bouquet is dried in place, write in your card and decorate the front if you’d like. I chose to use two of the same colors on the outside that I did on the inside to create a related and fun front for my card.
