This marble pattern trinket dish is a great decoration piece to make for yourself or as a gift. The materials allow for an inexpensive diy version of trinket dishes seen at home decor stores. Working with polymer clay is also a relaxing tactile activity. This project is not too extensive yet produces a beautiful result to display jewelry or other items in. 

You will need:

Two or more colors of polymer clay

Oven

Baking sheet

Gold paint

Thin paintbrush 

Step 1:

Using your selected colors of clay, soften the amount of each that you would like to use. Mine ended up being spheres with a diameter similar to the size of a quarter. 

Step 2:

Combine your two colors to create a marble pattern by pushing and folding them until you are satisfied. If you continue mixing, your colors will blend into one. Form the marble pattern into a sphere.

Step 3:

Begin forming your dish shape by flattening the ball of clay; I didn’t have a roller but used a can to smooth mine out. 

Step 4:

Create your dish shape by lifting up the edges so the object is no longer flat. You can also use the rounded bottom of a vessel like a mug to get your desired shape. 

Step 5:

Squeeze the edges of your dish to create an alternating wave pattern, then it’s ready to go in the oven! Bake your dish according to the instructions on your clay package. Mine baked for 15 minutes at 275 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Step 6:

Once it has cooled, use a thin brush with gold metallic paint to add the final touch. Once dried, your dish is ready to be displayed!
