Being worn by Julia Fox might just be the 2023 definition of “making it” in the fashion world-and Samuel Lewis can check that box off his list. Fox wore Lewis’s “Red Angel'' look to the Runway Icons fashion show- a floor length high neck red sleeveless gown with a ruched bustle detail and backless detail exposing a red thong. Lewis brings a kind of Schiaparelli surrealism and McQueen kind of scapegrace to fashion.

But controversy isn't something new in Lewis' work. The Polimoda Fashion Institute Graduate also designs with the brand, Mowalola. Lewis' presence is clear in the provocative and daring nature of Mowalola’s SS23 collection, “Burglar Wear ''.

When I previously said “Schiaparelli kind of surrealism”, I meanLook 5 from MARTYRDOM. A cinched white corset contrasts the exaggerated black hoop skirt, all topped off with the “Flying Nun Hat” which also resembles something of bunny ears extending about three feet off the models head- as featured in the Carnale Room magazine (issue 4).

Just second to being worn by Julia Fox, is being worn by fashion icon and Selling Sunset star, Christine Quinn, something Lewis has also achieved, Quinn wore Lewis’s “Tinsel Showgirl Dress”- a patterned silver and gold mini dress sporting tassels and a checkerboard print.

What sets Lewis apart from other artists is that not only can he incorporate such horror-esque details into his work but he does so in an often timeless way with an abstract edge.
